Who reads the DevShed tutorials?

I'm wondering because most of the time other members always refer to external tutorials for some reason. As far as I'm concerned I learned mostly everything I know by reading the actual site.

Little anecdote: back then I had a week to write a PHP web site I knew nothing about PHP, I learned fast here thanks to these tutorials. Gotta love DevShed.

Ya, I started here too. Now I mostly use the online manuals/API references

That's why I believe that telling a newbie to RTFM away is not really the best solution. Manuals are for people who already know how to do things (program in our case).

That's ok though if you're don't know how to use a unix command.

One thing I like about how perl handles documentation (on *nix) is that the documentation for every module installed is also available with man. . . Major time saver, especially for remote debugging.

I read ALOT of the tutorials for PHP when I first started (only a couple of months ago).

Every now and then I will do a search on particular topics in the tutorials.

Hey, how about a new phrase, "RTFT!!!" hahahahaha not

i learned php with them about 2.5 yrs ago. now i visit them only when i want to get into something new (eg. XML).

Agreed with Bricker42 and riv, when you got past the beginnerīs point, a manual/reference is enough to get everything done

I first learnt PHP from webmonkey tutorials many moons ago now. However since then I have read a lot of devshed articles (and referred a few posters to them), but usually when I want to know something specifically like using Java or XML/XSLT

I used them alot to get the ball rolling at first and now I must admit I still look over them from time to time on things that I am familiar with just to compare different ways of doing things.

There are still a few I would like to read even though I won't be using regularly. All in all I really like the devshed's minitutorials and even laughed at one or two of the jokes, I am easily amused though. ( a rubber ball and a paper clip are amusing to me)

Well, I've read and I'm reading many tutorials, here and on other sites.
I just can't stand the bunch of Zope tutorials published recently, I think that the Samba tutorial has raised much more interest.
And why not an article about writing a legal contract for consulting/software development, as a follow up to "The art of software development"?

That's a good idea or even perhaps a forum about it. The PHP General mailing list has HUGE thread about legal concerns, I'd say even more than technicals PHP related msgs. But most people here code usually code for themselves (those who frequent and not visit the board) so it might not be of such interest here.

In the phpdoc CVS there is a script for making manpages for PHP. However, it should be developed a bit more to be really usable
