windows media player problem
I'm trying to watch a video I downloaded using win media player 9. When I try to open the file (mpeg) it tries to d/l a codec, then gets an error d/l the codec and says "ClassFactory cannot supply the requested class". Google is no help. I don't know what to do. I'm missing a codec, but I don't know which one. Gspot doesn't support mpeg files. Can anyone help?

Well, GSpot is exactly where I'd of sent you. If it's an mpeg, there shouldn't be any codec issues. Just for the hell of it, run "mplayer2" and see if it plays it (media player 6.4 was its former name and is all I use).

I will when I get a chance. My attempts seem to have messed something else up in windows (when i installed RealPlayer). So now I'm in Linux, and I'll stay that way until I have time to do battle with Bill Gate's monster.

Well, my attempts to get the proper codecs installed and such resulted in screwing things up enough I had to reformat, so I'm afraid you won't be getting a solution from me (at least not for a while)

1. Do yourself a favor and avoid windows media player. I usually don't mind Microsoft products, but this one is inferior and buggy. I use Winamp with plugins, as well as ZoomPlayer and BSPlayer (best for subtitles).
2. Download the NIMO codec pack. It might get you the codec you need. |

1. I no longer use media player, you're completely right
![]() 2. I tried that, and it didn't work, but its now irrelevant, as I lost the file anyway ![]() |
