wireless: 80211g or 80211b
My new laptop came with built-in 80211b so now I need to buy a wireless access point. I am tempted to get the 80211g instead of 80211b.
80211g is supposed to be backwards compatible with 80211b but will it be slower than having everything 80211b? Is 80211g still 'experimental', will I have a stream of flash upgrades to do? thanks for any input. |

I would only the buy the 'g' only if you plan to purchase another computer (read: MAC) in the near future. I am assuming your 'b' card is integrated and non-removable and the only manufacturer forcing the move onto 'g' is Apple.
As for speed loss, there should be no performance loss with a access point that fully supports 'g'. These are backwards compatible as you said but the slowest link would still be your 'b' card since it would be using the slowest standard. Here an article at tech tv IMO, why buy 'g' point when 'b' can be purchased for less than the price of edit.
