Wireless Networking

Hi,

I have my home network (3 pc's into one hub and a laptop into the same hub.

My ISDN connection comes into PC one and is shared through Windows XP.

My laptop has a D-Link wireless network PCMCIA card - I would like to be able to remove the cat 5 cable between the hub and the laptop and use this card instead.

What is the best and cost effective piece of equipment to plug into my network hub via an RJ45 port and share the connection to the wireless card on my laptop.

Would setup be hard?

Any help as always greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Simon

Something like this is more than adequate for what you need.

I've got a slightly older version of this: http://www.cdw.com/shop/products/default.asp?EDC=438689
That's a 714P, I've got a 713P, no idea of the difference, but the description sounds the same. It will do the routing, too (as most of these ethernet-wireless bridges do), so you don't have to set that up manually on another computer. It still has port forwarding and other features to work with a server, too. Unless you're very adept at setting up a router and have lots of fun things in yours already you want to keep, I'd suggest something like that.

Also, that's 802.11b, not 802.11g if it makes any difference. So it's 11Mb instead of 54Mb or something. Unless you're transferring tons of large files, I wouldn't imagine the speed difference would be very noticable. Most of the time home networks are used for sharing internet and printers, and playing games.

Hiya,

I have just taken delivery of my equipment.

Managed to get a D-Link DWL 900AP+.

This is to go with my DWL 650 PCMCIA card.

Still trying to find the time to get it setup.

Hopefully this should do the job.

Simon
