Things You Will Be Doing This Summer

Whats up everybody? It sure feels good to walk outside these days and feel the suns warm rays on the skin. I'm actually deciding on outdoor activities to take up this summer. Was thinking about rock climbing but I'm far away from an outdoor rock climbing locations. Another plan is to spent any free time during the weekend sun bathing. I was wondering what other great ideas some of you good folks have or are planning on taking up on this summer?

medialint that can't be all especially in a place like Oakland which is just a bridge away from all the good stuff. By the way, have you been up around Grass Valley? During my last visit there I went with some friends I loved how it was away from everything. I think there is a dirt bike course somewhere closer to that area. I would love to go there again some day in the near future.

Actually all the good stuff is on my side of the bridge :-)

I plan to start playing with my friends in our informal old-fart band again on occasional Saturdays otherwise my weekends are family time. Strolls by Lake Merritt are about as exciting as it gets for now. Next year though my son should be old enough to do a few more adventurous summertime things.

Dirt bikes like motorcycles? I used to ride in my school days.

I shall be trying to write a PhD thesis. Summer's going to mostly be a distraction.

Believe it or not, we had an inch of snow on the ground yesterday morning. Admittedly that's very late for it. It did hit 55F today.

    Our average snowfall:

I'll be going camping in July.

This is not realistic. You need a lot more "change diaper" and "buy more diapers"

Plus, for me, most days when I got home from work, the wife would say "Here, take YOUR daughter" as she ran to take a bubble bath or something like that.

@Simon. Not to worry, he'll exit the loop when he goes out of scope.

I just moved and my wife is pregnant, so my life is very similar to Lint's, except add an hour of "unpack boxes" to the loop.

As for outside of normal life:
First week of June: Mom coming to stay with us for a while.
July 4 weekend: Baby shower for my wife, and going to my parents' summer home in New York to watch the fireworks and relax.
Some weekends: Go to some ball games with my brother, since we're living in the same town for the first time in nearly 8 years.

Other than that, it's "keep my head down, work, and try not to anger the pregnant lady."

Good stuff ManiacDan sounds like you pretty much got your schedule for half the year figured out. I'm trying to squeeze clearing my vacant garage into my agenda and turn it into a project space since I don't have a car to put in there.

Surprised no one has mentioned beer yet. I'll be trying to fit in as much cold beer as possible amongst my other commitments!

ahh yes, frisbee at the park, swimming at the lake, trips to the beach, Sunday BBQs, BEER (both brewing and drinking), camping trips (maybe some SCA this year...), hiking, a bit of kayaking (serene river day trips, not whitewater), baseball, mountain biking... relaxing and reading books in a plastic lounge chair while watching my kids play outdoors...

outdoor beer, wine, art, and music festivals... local community markets... mmm... girls wearing less clothes, staying light till after 9:00pm, leaving every window open (home, work, and car)...

    mmm, summertime. me likey.

thinking about trying to get all the indoor scuba cert stuff done this summer, so I can plan a trip to finish the open water stuff next summer. have a friend who should be finishing her instructor's license this summer; was going to go to Honduras and do the whole thing this year, but that money will now likely go toward buying a house...

oh, and I will be working on maximizing the contrast between forearm color and under-watch-band color myself, however I vote against 'sunbathing' as an activity -- it kind of happens by default if you try to incorporate other outdoor activities, or even just find yourself spending time outdoors...

man, now I have to stop thinking about summer and go back to staring at computer monitors... depressing...

Wow creative, me life isn't kind some of monotoany of ignorance in first of places.

what will you be doing this summer, dwhs?
    'man vent'-ing?
faking that you care to your boss?
moving over right away when changing lanes? (I hope you at least look first)
or just working out, to bring out more aggressiveness?

yeah, good luck with that... (sorry for the sidetrack all)
