Downloaded Files

Hi i follow all the first tutorial and i have a couple of questions,

1.- When i access a pop3 server all the messages gets downloaded to the web site root ( wwwroot/MyPortal in this case ) how can avoid this.

2.- Every time i fetch a mail and display only the header in my web page my mail client ( Outlook ) marck as read the message ( i am not reading it at this time i only fetch the header ) how can avoid this also
