    Re: function mysql_connect()

    I went through the installation step again and now it seems to work fine.

    What I think it was is that I first downloaded the source for MySQL and not the binary.

    Error 1064

    When I try to grant usage to run queries from web browser I get error 1064. I am using a database on a Linux server which I have my domain on and using telnet to access it.
    Is this a problem with how the server is set up?
    Please help me, Ive spent all night on this.
    I followed the tutorial instructions exactly but cant get it to work.

    Thanks

    Re: Error 1064

    At which ponit are you getting these errors? Can you provide any more information? Does the error 1064 come from PHP or Apache or MySQL?

    Re: Error 1064

    It happens when it try to grant usage when connected to the mYSQL database through telnet. The PHP returns an error because it does not have access I assume.
    So I type
    grant usage
    on sample.*
    to webuser@localhost;
    And error 1064 comes up.
    Ive tried all different ways to get this to work but had no success.
    When I log into MySQL is am in the dir that has the PHP3 scripts.

    Thanks

    mysql GRANT

    I have been following the tutorial on Devshed to try and get MySQL running
    for a dynamic website
    I am using it through a telnet terminal emulator because the domain is
    hosted virtually on a server elsewhere.
    I have made the database and tried to grant usage so the database can be
    accessed by pages on the Internet
    However, it is MySQL version 3.21.33 and I am told it is only version 3.22
    and up that use the GRANT usage statement
    How do I grant usage so I can access it from the web on 3.21.33?

    Thanks very much to anyone who replies

    Re: lame

    How can you say something like that? This writer puts in hard work, is successful at getting his point across, and you put him down?

    You must realize that not every article is made for every level of programming. Plus, it is more likely once you get past the basics you can catch on by reading the manual or getting a good book. Getting started is probably the hardest part and the most common problem, and this article points at the correct audience. If you need something more advanced, read the manual and pick up a good MySQL book. You really can\'t believe your going to learn all the more advanced topics from articles, there are simply just too many topics to cover for any one site.

    It asks me to save the file to disk

    I really love this mysql and how it works but I have just 1 glitch and I do not know how to fix it I have spent hours with no result.

    I finished the test.php3 but when I try to view it via a browser it ask me to save it to disk it won\'t let me view it. Everything installed exactly how the illustrations showed. I made sure that the /etc/mime.types
    were set up with application/x-httpd-php3
    application/x-httpd-php3-source-php3 phps
    nothing seems to work. This is the last step in making my web server functionall.
    If anyone can help I sure would appreciate it.

    Re: Error 1064

    Which version of MySQL are you using? Older versions don\'t have the GRANT command.

    This does not work

    I have spent the last 3 days doing exactly what was instructed and I can tell you that this is not an accurate example of how to accomplish this.

    <!-- Code -->
    <p><pre><font color=#000000><xmp>
    1.I have redhat 5.2 installed
    2.Apache is already installed
    ? Do you have to download apache and
    install it and configure it if it
    is already installed in order to
    get it to work with php3 and mysql.

    Is apache that comes with redhat
    5.2 setup already to work with
    php3 and mysql?

    The reason I ask this is because
    when you download and install
    apache it's directory structure
    is different I don't know why.

    3.mysql did not work like it was supposed to
    when I installed mysql-3.22.23b-pc-linux-gnu-i686.tar.gz when I typed # mysql to test it, it gave output that said command not found so I installed mysql-3.22.23b-1.i386.rpm and that worked perfect. When I typed # mysql it let me right in the door.

    4.When I followed the instructions on php3

    $cd /tmp

    $tar -zvxf php-3.0.9.tar.gz

    $cd php-3.0.9

    $./configure --with-apxs=/usr/local/apache
    /bin/apxs

    --with-config-file-path=/etc/httpd/conf

    --with-mysql

    --with-system-regex

    Next when I issue the $make command I get this everytime

    [make:*** No targets. stop.
    </xmp></font></pre><p>
    <!-- Code -->

    I have downloaded php-3.0.9.tar.gz from every mirror so that rules that out.

    Same with the $make install command

    I think that this is a really great program from what I have read but now I would like to see it in action. If anyone can tell me about these problems and how to go about getting these things working together I would really be greatfull.

    Example

    OK, I have the rpm version of MySQL installed and working.

    I can create the database example just fine but when I try to run

    <!-- Code -->
    <p><pre><font color=#000000><xmp>
    mysql> CREATE DATABASE mytable (
    -> name CHAR(30),
    -> phone CHAR(10),
    -> );
    </xmp></font></pre><p>
    <!-- Code -->

    I get this error

    <!-- Code -->
    <p><pre><font color=#000000><xmp>
    ERROR 1064: You have an error in your SQL syntax near 'example CREATE TABLE mytable (
    name CHAR(30),
    phone CHAR(10)
    )' at line 1
    </xmp></font></pre><p>
    <!-- Code -->

    what did I do wrong?

    Re: This does not work

    You need to download the source apache and
    recompile it again! Before that make sure
    that you remove the preinstall apache that
    come with redhat by using $rpm -e apacheXXXX
    to uninstall it. Than follow the instruction
    that offer by this site.
