    Help!!Can`t make php???

    Had no problems with Apache, MySQL parts
    <br>
    of this article, but for some reason, I
    <br>
    can`t get past the PHP installation.
    <br>
    <br>
    I downloaded the source code from php.
    <br>
    <br>
    I enter the following configure
    <br>
    <br>
    #./configure --with-apxs=/usr/local/apache/bin/apxs
    <br>
    --with-config-file-path=/etc/httpd
    <br>
    --with-mysql
    <br>
    --with-system-regex
    <br>
    <br>
    and then enter
    <br>
    <br>
    #make
    <br>
    <br>
    I get the folloing output:
    <br>
    <br>
    gcc -g -02 -02 -fpic -I. -I. -I -c language- parser.tab.c -o language-parser.tab.o

    Re: starting and ending of mysqld daemon at a same time

    It looks like, you may have lost your .sock
    <br>
    <br>
    See if there is a mysql.sock somewhere on your system.
    <br>
    <br>
    try
    <br>
    <br>
    #locate mysql.sock
    <br>
    <br>
    see if mysql.sock exists in /tmp, it
    <br>
    probably doesn`t
    <br>
    <br>
    If you can`t find one, you probably need to
    <br>
    make a new one, it may have been deleted.
    <br>
    The problem seems that each sock is assigned
    <br>
    to a port, mine was 3306. you might check
    <br>
    to see if 3306 is active. You'll probably
    <br>
    find mysql assigned to 3306, so you won`t
    <br>
    be able to create a new sock there since the port is already assigned. So you might start your mysql server, assigning it a new port, like 3307 or 3308 or something not used. If you are able to do that then look for the location of your new sock, and when
    <br>
    you start your mysql client, you'll need to
    <br>
    give it the location of your new socket.
    <br>
    <br>
    example:
    <br>
    <br>
    ./bin/safe_mysqld --socket=mysql.sock
    <br>
    --port=3307
    <br>
    <br>
    to start server at new socket, then
    <br>
    <br>
    mysql -h localhost --socket=/usr/local/mysql/data/mysql.sock
    <br>
    <br>
    <br>
    to start client with location of where my
    <br>
    new socket was made
    <br>
    <br>
    Hope it helps

    Re: starting and ending of mysqld daemon at a same time

    thanks microfilm.
    <br>
    actually i deleted all the records in
    <br>
    host,db,user tables.i had a doubt and i
    <br>
    inserted a record as root into host and user
    <br>
    table.now mysql server is starting without any problem.but i have one more problem(ie)
    <br>
    when i gave
    <br>
    <br>
    ./mysql -u root
    <br>
    <br>
    i am getting the famous message of linux
    <br>
    'access denied for user root@local host with
    <br>
    password(no).i think i didn't specify
    <br>
    host as local in host table.
    <br>
    <br>
    if u don't mind please goto
    <br>
    cd /usr/local/mysql/data
    <br>
    cd mysql
    <br>
    cat host
    <br>
    cat db
    <br>
    cat user
    <br>
    <br>
    and give me the pattern of record inserted.

    <br>
    Coming from a Windows environment, I donot know the way to properly Uninstall programs in Unix and Linux.
    <br>

    <br>
    Can anyone help me with this?
    <br>

    <br>
    Ps: I am using Suse Linux 6.1.

    Re: Test program

    Hi! I am having the same problem. I have checked the conf and types files and no problem found. As my MySQL and Apache installation came with the original Linux Suse6.1, some of the files structures directory are different. I think I have changed the necessary commands to suit my setup but not 100% sure. Also I noticed that in the Exercise, the command entry is done in the '$' shell where I am doing it in the '#' shell. Could this be a reason? How can I switch netween the 2 shells?
    <br>
    <br>
    Your help is greatly appreciated.
    <br>
    <br>
    Thanks

    HEEEEEEEEEEELP!

    I'm an absolute newcomer to MySQL and PHP3, and am having an awfully hard time trying to figure out how to get it all working.
    <br>
    <br>
    For a start, all the examples I can find refer to someone who has MySQL installed on their own computer, whilst I am working with a hosted version. My hosters created a database for me, and I haven't the first clue how to access it with PHP3!
    <br>
    <br>
    I can write SQL code, that's not the tricky bit, it's just getting the PHP3 code necessary to interact with my database!
    <br>
    <br>
    Can anyone help? Email me @ ThunderHud@thecgf.org if you can!
    <br>
    <br>
    Thanks! :)

    Re: HEEEEEEEEEEELP!

    just replace the localhost bit for the hostname of ip address of the remote db server, and the webuser for the username of the remote MySQL host. The password will follow the username in the next field.

    Re: starting and ending of mysqld daemon at a same time

    I am having exactly the same problem, but I have discovered that if I
    <!-- Code -->
    <p><pre><font color=#008000><xmp>su mysql</xmp></font></pre><p>
    <!-- Code -->
    then mysql starts up fine!

    This does mean that it hasd to be started manually and not in a script.

    The mysql.sock file is in /tmp, but has zero length.

    Is this a permissions problem?

    Warning: MySQL Connection Failed: Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket

    I set the system up as indicated in the article. I had some problems with directory permissions as the mysql_install_db (running as user mysql) tries to create dirs in /var/lib. I ended up chowning /var/lib/mysql to mysql:root.
    <br>
    <br>
    When I run the sample php3 script I get
    <br>
    <br>
    Warning: MySQL Connection Failed: Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket
    <br>
    <br>
    Has anyone else seen this?
