    Re: libphp3.so ???

    Hi anca,

    when u say u are unable to get libphp3.so to compile, do u get an error message on compilation or afterwards at execution.
    Also, what is your platform and compilation parameters?

    Ed

    ## Works! But no DB connect. =( ##

    All -
    <br>
    <br>
    I got everything installed and working (after much frustration). MySQL would NOT install correctly, no matter what I did. It seems to be missing /usr/lib/mysql entirely, and it's referenced in the build scripts.
    <br>
    <br>
    So I just yanked that directory off of my buddys installation. So that solved that.
    <br>
    <br>
    Now everything works, but when I run the add.php3 script, it fails to add to the database (it gives no error) and adds it to the querystring.
    <br>
    <br>
    Actually, it could be that the index.php3 page (the connect and display page) gives no data no matter what I do.
    <br>
    <br>
    Can anyone point me in the right direction here?
    <br>
    <br>
    I'm reading the MySQL reference as quick as I can, but I'm getting REALLY frustrated and could use a boost.
    <br>
    <br>
    Oh, and also, I'm able to run mysql from the command line (installed the .rpm client from mysql.org), and see the databases. How do I get it to display the data in the database? Oh no Mr. Bill! RTFM I guess. Anyways, a boost would help. ;-)
    <br>
    <br>
    Thanks a lot!

    Re: ## Works! But no DB connect. =( ##

    Try a simple PHP page first:
    something like

    <!-- Code -->
    <p><pre><font color=#008000><xmp>
    <html>
    <head>
    </head>
    <body>
    <?
    echo "test";
    ?>
    </body>
    </html>
    </xmp></font></pre><p>
    <!-- Code -->

    if that works PHP is loaded right(and you are using short tags)
    <br>
    to run mysql from command line cd to
    /usr/local/mysql/bin
    (or wherever your mysqld file is)
    type in

    <!-- Code -->
    <p><pre><font color=#008000><xmp>./mysql </xmp></font></pre><p>
    <!-- Code -->

    hit enter..<br>
    (I have it passworded for me so I type in<br>

    <!-- Code -->
    <p><pre><font color=#008000><xmp>./mysql -u myname -p</xmp></font></pre><p>
    <!-- Code -->

    <!-- Code -->
    <p><pre><font color=#008000><xmp>****** (password being typed)
    >welcome to mysql </xmp></font></pre><p>
    <!-- Code -->

    (is what I see next)<br>
    to show any records, use the
    <!-- Code -->
    <p><pre><font color=#008000><xmp>use dbname;</xmp></font></pre><p>
    <!-- Code -->

    command to make sure you are using the database containing the <br>table you want to
    see data in.
    <br>
    Once it says 'changed' just type out the SQL <br>command you would use to choose the records
    <br>
    -- to see all the records in the video table I type <br>
    <!-- Code -->
    <p><pre><font color=#008000><xmp>select * from video;</xmp></font></pre><p>
    <!-- Code -->
    then hit enter <br>
    -- what I get back is the list of <br>records/fields that are in that dbase
    <br>
    try the php first.. if it works.. email me <br>
    and I can go further

    Re: ## Works! But no DB connect. =( ##

    It works, but I still can't get the damn thing to connect. Before I take this further, I'm going to go back and run make tests, just in case I missed an error or something.

    Other suggestions?

    Btw, thank you! That's a lot of typing. Do go on if you feel like it.

    Re: libphp3.so ???

    I got an error message when I was compiling. It looks like it was during the stage when it was trying to do something w/ the MySQL libs. The error was something like "Compilation ended due to error 1113456" (not the same number)

    Did you also have MySQL-related problems?

    I compiled it as an apache module, rather than a DSO, and things are working well now.

    Thanks!

    Communicating with MYSQL

    Hey-
    I'm trying to set up MySQL in a windows environment (and therefore trying to use MYODBC to connect). I've got MySQL installed on the server (and it runs fine from there) MyODBC is installed as well. When I try to connect to MySQL through it, say, from Access, I get
    'ODBC call failed' 'Can't connect to MySQL server at IP'
    (And I can't even get a System DSN set up for it!!!). I'm using the following options on the User DSN:
    IP address (for the host)
    Options 4 and 16384 are used
    Any help would be much appreciated!!!
    Thanks
    Mike

    Re: libphp3.so ???

    Chris,

    u have to go into /etc directory there's a file on the configuration path edit it to
    mysql libary. Then run ldconfig.

    Sorry, a little bit sketchy my linux pc is being repaired- RAM problem, i'm on my windows pc.

    The main idea here is the library binary u've compiled is ok. Because i at first thought to get a precompiled binary. It's the linux configuration linking.

    If u solve it or have any problems buzz..

    Re: PostgreSQL

    I've read that PostgreSQL is a more powerful database than MySQL, but power normally comes with a price. How much more of a system resource hog is it?

    PgSQL and resources

    I guess I wouldn't make this the issue as much as what you get out of PgSQL over MySQL. If you are hoping to do e-commerce, do not go with MySQL because it cannot do transactions (it can't tell if the transaction took place or not...), which is a must for e-commerce. If you are just wanting to put a database together for the sake of making a site dynamic, either are fine.

    Hope this helps.

    MYSQL Update statement

    I have a form with a row of data on each line with an Update submit button on each line too. When I click on the Update submit button, it always sends values from the last row. How do I make it send mysql the data from the row I click the Update button ?

    Re: open64 problem

    I got PHP to compile but now when I run apache(/usr/local/apache/bin/apachectl start) i get:

    Syntax error on line 238 of /etc/httpd/httpd.conf:
    Cannot load /usr/local/apache/libexec/libphp3.so into server: /usr/local/apache/
    libexec/libphp3.so: undefined symbol: open64
    /usr/local/apache/bin/apachectl start: httpd could not be started

    I Have just been following the instructions to the letter and have very basic Linux knowledge. Does this mean anything to anybody and can it be fixed???

    Thanks in advance
