    Not bad

    There were two problems I noticed though. The first was that on the second to last page, or whatever page it was that talked about escaping special characters, the escapted examples were exactly the same as the non-escaped ones. Was there an error or did I miss something? Also on the last page there was a problem with the ">"'s. There were no greater than signs, only less than signs in their place. Otherwise though, good tutorial.

    Hi,
    The authors should note that there are a number of mistakes in the article, specifically with respect to the right tag at the end i.e. ">" which is replaced by "<".

    Correct me if I am wrong but of what I have seen of XML this will genetate an error

    Good intro

    ...but for the problems the other posters noted. Specifically, it looks like perhaps the tutorial was converted to HTML from some other document format, as the "&lt;", etc., character entities are not escaped in the HTML, and appear as '<', etc.

    Good article...as usual

    I enjoyed the XML basics article, the fog is starting to clear for me on how to use XML and why it makes sense for authors to create their own markup.
    I did notice the errors mentioned by the others and was puzzled trying to figure out what the difference between
    <store>Barnes & Noble </store>
    and
    <store>Barnes & Noble </store>
    was. It would be good if those were fixed. Thanks for the intro though...

    error

    Examples render the same when discussing escaping special characters.
    <br />
    <br />
    &quot;...
    <br />
    This would work:
    <br />
    Barns & Noble
    <br />
    <br />
    This would not work:
    <br />
    Barns & Noble
    <br />
    ...&quot;

    Re: error

    Sorry about these problems. They should be fixed now. Most of this was due to IE 5.5 converting stuff on the fly in the forms fields.. We need to add some browser checking code to our comments and editor pages.

    How Far?

    Good introduction. Really looking forward to more detailed info in the subsequent pieces. I've had the opportunity to work with a live SOAP application and it's daunting at times. Keep up the quality!

    good starter

    I went though part 1. I've worked with XML in the past but never designed it. Now I have a need and it is a great article to get me started. I hope to learn enough to build Xerces into my java app and make it XML like crazy!
