Best CVS solution

Hi.. I have a small business where we need a CVS solution.. I would prefer open source, and furthermore I would prefer completely web oriented.. I don't have complete control over our servers.. and I can't install software on them as I please.. therefore, I need something that is only made up of webprogramming languages... Does anyone have a solution? I haven't been able to find one!

Sorry for my lack of understanding but what is CVS in this context? It doesn't sound like what I know of as CVS.

Hehe.. I'm not sure I know exactly what it is either... But to my knowledge it's a form of system made so that projekt teams can share information and resources over the internet... Kinda like a project system.....

So perhaps it is CVS - the Concurrent Versions System. If so, there are lots of web based solutions for this. However, many of them require some sort of software on the server side of things.

When you say many of them... do you really mean many or do you really mean all :P.. because I can't install anything on the server..

I think that you might want to first verify that we're talking about the same thing. The CVS I'm familiar with is traditionally used as a source code control system. People get copies of files, modify them, and then "check them in". The system keeps track of previous versions of the files in case you want to go back.

While there are some similarities between that and what you describe I wouldn't go too far down the path of investigating that until you know what you're dealing with. The CVS I'm talking about does have client side only solutions if the server side is already set up. If what you're talking about and what I'm talking about are the same thing then it sounds like your server is already setup. But again, I'd make sure that it's the same thing before going too far.

There are CSV or Subversion (heard that it's better) hostings available. But I don't know if that would be acceptable solution for you (keeping all source code on someone else's server ...).

Other option is to get some sort of Virtual private server (I imagine dedicated is too expensive to you - just like me) which cost around $30/month but you can install your software.

You could also consider an in house server for that. If you have some sort of permanent Internet connection - you could use that ...
