How to create a quicktime .mov clip

Do you need to buy Apple Quicktime Pro to create quicktime movies/clips?

If not, what other programs are available to create quicktime (.mov) clips and movies?

For Mac, Windows or Linux? And no, there are other programs you can use, the pro just gives you more features for manipulating the files.

I have not found any good alternatives yet, but pro does give you the ability to add "hints" to the video to allow streaming of the video over web pages.

Flash would be a very expensive step up from the $30 quicktime pro. And while it can export a .mov file I can't say that I have ever seen anybody doing video editing with it.
