Indeo video 5 help please ?
Apologies if this is the wrong forum for this but I wasn't sure where to post.
I have just been sorting my videos and I tried to play a small video that was captured with my logitech commmunicate stx web cam. I opened it with vlc player and I heard the audio but no video, the movie plays fine if i just double click it from the logitech software app'. Anyway after a bit of googling I find out that the videos recorded with the logitech stx are encoded with "indeo video 5", vlc player cannot play them and ive also read the mighty mplayer cannot play them, becuase this is a propriety codec (although oddly WMP *can*). My question is is there any software that can re-encode indeo video 5 to a standard avi or mpeg ?, or, is there a way I can get the webcam to encode in a different format ? Any help would be appreciated. |

Quote:
Because WMP is also proprietary and has Microsoft behind it. Quote:
If you want to re-encode, use a software called VirtualDub or VirtualDubMod. It's free and does exactly what you want. If you can get your webcam software to capture to a different format, do so. Re-encode is like a copy of a copy, where you risk losing quality. |
