How Joomla and Drupal compare on server load?
Hi, I am new to this community and new to web development. I am searching for hours on the web and I can't find a straight answer to my question. I want to build a web site with some social networking features. I understand that my two main options are Joomla and Drupal for getting my site done faster. Originally I was considering heavily Drupal because I hear is more customisable.
But I also hear that it is very demanding on server resources, be it memory, CPU and database queries. I understand that things may get better with caching but i would like to know how Joomla compares to that.
I want my site as lightweight as possible without sacrificing the features I have in mind.
Does anyone have any experience with both of these systems or maybe suggest something else?
Thanks for coming in software development community. For your kind some information if you are looking social network tool bars on your website so you can choose anyone platform. Yes, Drupal development is very good place for customization website. But don't worry about speed, it's only depend on a server speed, development platform will not effect on a speed. Many Big Corporate website is built on Drupal.

We specialise in both drupal and joomla website development, mainly bespoke.
To answer your question as simply as possible, speed is actually determined alot by your hosting platform.
Poor hosting at $5 a month will not provide decent performance.
You will need to look into a more dedicated setup as shared hosting will not give you the snappy performance you will be looking for.
It also depends on how many visitors you receive daily, e.g. 0-100 doesn't matter, but 100 - 500+ and you will want to invest in hosting that is around the 20 - 60 $ a month.
Coding and templates quality also adds to this, so always ensure you are using high quality code which is not bloated.
Download YSLOW for firefox and run that on your site when you are finished and it will give you recommendations on fixes to improve speed and a rating based on your site performance.
Hope that helps!
