Secure Document Sharing

A client of mine would like something setup that will allow specific members to login and be able to share documents. So they can pull the document down, update it, and put it back up for the other users.

My first idea was to just setup a vBulletin forum and just let them attach the documents in threads.

But my question is, is there a better system geared just for this?

Thanks in advance,
Mike

I am facing this same need.

What solution did you end up using?

if you want to keep your document more secure and can spend some money on achieving the system to save your documents, then I would suggest you purchase one Windows VPS with FTPS supported on it. This way you can securely upload/download the documents. You can also create FTP users as you want.

This is my idea towards your need. There may be some better solution.

You really should have started your own thread for this one.

There's a number of ways to achieve this. Details are important.

Do you need revision control?

Simultaneous access by multiple readers/writers?

How valuable are these documents? If they are accidently exposed to the public or prying system admins, is there a large potential loss?

What sort of resources does your client already have on hand? Do they have their own domain controllers, DNS servers, routers, etc.?
