Versioning control for Windows

Hey guys,

At work we use VSS6 to do the versioning control for our software, however when i get home & start working on my projects i'm left in the dark when it comes to version control.

I've searched the net regarding CVS AND RCC and all that stuff, but i still don't completely understand it, i gave winCVS a go, but couldn't get it working.

Does anyone know how to install CVS on windows & how to actually use it? I'm really after a similar thing to VSS if it exists as GPL?

THanks guys

WinCVS is a client for CVS, you need a CVS server as well.

If you are working on Windows, the one to go for is probably cvsnt from www.cvsnt.com. You might consider installing cygwin to install the original linux version.

CVS is considered outdated and many developers are switching to Subversion for their revision control systems.

You will find both server and client versions for Subversion at subversion.tigris.org

Yeah, Subversion is good. It includes the things that CVS doesn't offer.

Fotr you clients you can then get TortoiseSVN which is a graphical windows app for clients to interact with the Subversion repository - all it does is add commands into the Windows Contyaxt menu - simple!!
