1 fixed ip with a DNS server?
Hi'ya
I'm very new to this side of the Internet, but is it possible to have a DNS server with only 1 IP address or do you need 2? EG one for ns1.blah.com and ns2.blah.com ? Cheers Jase. |

if your registrar doesn't allow you to only specify one dns server as your domain host, then just add 2 domains with the same IP address.

This is the preferred method if your DNS needs to be fixed/setup fast and you don't have the time to bounce messages back and forth on a forum. It is possible. You would be surprised how many people only use a single server for there domains DNS. Most registars do require two servers per domain, but if you list your single server as the first listed, and use a server that does not have info about your domain as the second listed. You should be able to operate just fine provided you do not have to many visitors. If you start getting lots of traffic and are having resolution errors, you should find a secondary DNS service someplace. I have succefully handled server thousand users a day using a single DNS server. Allthough I now have several Servers deicated to DNS.
