AD DNS for second (seperate) DC

Hi

I have a established network, with its own AD DC and workstations.

I recently added another server (Win2008) on a test domain (ITs own domain seperate from the main one).

The new server and workstation have static IP's. I ran DCPromo on the new server, without error, and seems fine.

On the test workstation I set the DNS server to the new server, and left the gateway to the router so it has internet access.

However when I try to join the domain it fails with
Code:
"This operation returned because the timeout period expired."
(error code 0x000005B4 ERROR_TIMEOUT)

The query was for the SRV record for _ldap._tcp.dc._msdcs.testdomain

nslookup also fails from the workstation, but not the server
Code:
 C:\>nslookup egtest-w2003-1
DNS request timed out.
    timeout was 2 seconds.
*** Can't find server name for address 192.168.20.200: Timed out
Server: UnKnown
Address: 192.168.20.200

DNS request timed out.
    timeout was 2 seconds.
*** Request to UnKnown timed-out

If I hit the enter the IP address on of the server in IE I get the IIS7 hello website fine.

Does Windows 2008 block non domain access to the DNS server?

Or is there something I am missing.

Thanks for any info, if I have left anything out, let me know.

AD DNS for second (seperate) DC *solved*

This was a Windows 2008 Host with VMServer installed issue, using VM Server Beta for Windows 2008 fixed the issue, but like mose Betas brought a whole load more!!

Scrapped and fallen back to Windows 2003 Host.

Thanks, PaulG.
