Automatic DNS replication

We are running a Primacy DNS and a Secondary DNS server on Windows 2008.

Currently any zones that are created on the primary DNS server require secondary zone entry on the secondary DNS server. Once the secondary zone is added on the secondary server then the replication works fine.

We often create new zones and am wondering if there is a way to automate this process so that when a new zone is created in our Primary DNS server then it gets replicated automatically to the secondary DNS server.

Your help is greatly appreciated!

Hi,

This is achievable but not through the DNS service itself (as far as I know). You have to run a few scripts to look for new zones on the primary and then have the script create them on the secondary.

Google for "Automating MS DNS zone creation with Windows Powershell 2.0"

There is a great guide on how to get this done.

Good luck!

Eddie
