become a domain registar?
Is it possible to become a domain registar? I would like to pass out domain names to people and all.

It's extremely expensive - the software required alone costs tens of thousands of dollars a year.

Last I heard there was a $10,000 non refundable application fee to ICANN. Yes that's NON refundable..
This was some time ago though so it may have changed since then. |

Your only option for beeing a stand alone Registrar is through ICANN. Not only is there a $10,000 application fee there are also many many requirments that must be met. So unless you have the large amounts of money and time to spare, Your only other option is to use a reseller service E.G. You can pay Godaddy.com $99.00 a year for domain resell rights. , you cannot however under sale godaddy.com so $8.95 per domain name is rock bottom.
Hope this helps Sam Land http://www.dyndnsservices.com |
