BIND 9 And Multiple MX Records
Hello Everyone,
I just installed a redhat 8 with Bind 9. I'm trying to add multiple MX records for my domain kkwc.com, I want to created the backup mx record, but the host is under a diferent zone kkwc.net. Here's a sample query result from redhat DNS. kkwc.com. MX IN 86400 mail.kkwc.com. [Preference = 10] kkwc.com. MX IN 86400 server01.kkwc.net.kkwc.com. [Preference = 20] kkwc.com. NS IN 86400 dns1.kkwc.com. kkwc.com. NS IN 86400 dns2.kkwc.com. mail.kkwc.com. A IN 86400 199.3.249.3 dns1.kkwc.com. A IN 86400 199.3.249.7 dns2.kkwc.com. A IN 86400 65.85.69.71 I need the query result for my second MX record to be: kkwc.com. MX IN server01.kkwc.net NOT kkwc.com. MX IN server01.kkwc.net.KKWC.COM Please Help. Thanks to all. |

Your missing the trailing period in the data portion of the record... If you're putting the full mail server hostname in the DNS record in the last field, you need a trailing period to tell BIND it's already cannonical -- otherwise BIND is helpful and appends the current zone's domain name to whatever you've entered. (very common error)
