Cant resolve ip

how can i resolve mail.company.local to mail.company.com
mail.company.local is behind a router

i cant ping mail.company.com
we are in a domain environment, where mail.company.local (xchange) is a member server

Are you asking how to make "mail.company.local" resolve to "mail.company.com"? As in you want people to use the former address but have it silently point to the latter?
Use a CNAME.

If you can't reach the .com address then you have a separate problem.
