Cname records

I want to reference shared folders, printers by a different name other than the actual server name.

For example:
If I am sharing a printer off of computer \\SPPF00000345\HPPrinter , I want to use a more friendly name such as \\printserver\HPPrinter.

Is it possible to make an alias of the actual computer name. I tried creating a cname record for the actual server, but the shares do not show up. I can ping the cname record and it comes back with the originals server IP, but it doesn't show the shares off of that computer.

What can I do to accomplish this task?
