Configuring BIND under Redhat 9 on cable.
I have a domain registerd at herbal-led.org. Right now I am using an internet DNS service to administer Name Service. that account will soon expire. I am very new to DNS. The website is hosted off of the same computer that the DNS would be running at. What should I do to configure the Server?
My computer is behind a router the router's address is 192.168.2.1, the computer hosting going to be hosting the DNS and already is hosting the site is 192.168.2.16. If I pust a gateway for port 53 tcp, and udp, how would i set up the nameservers? Last edited by bytedisorder : March 28th, 2004 at 09:14 PM. |

Sounds like you know nothing about BIND, and therefor must be taught everything since you probably don't know how to teach yourself. I can point you in the right direction, but perhaps you'd rather to keep things simple? There are many free "internet DNS services" out there. I call them domain hosting services. Here's a list of them:

No, in other words, I was already using such services at: dns.widge.org
But they are due to expire. And for about a week I had tried to get a nameserver running on redhat using the X-bind-config. It was without much luck. |

yes, I know. I'm pointing you to free domain hosting services that will never expire. You could use one of them to host your domain for free for as long as you want. Or would you still rather host it yourself? I just don't want ya to think that hosting a dns server yourself is your only free permanent solution.

Hmm, thanks, I see. But no I would like to host it myself, mostly as a learning experience.

That's the spirit. I see that you tried to get ahold of me several times on IRC. When you finally do get ahold of me, I'll be glad to get ya acquainted with BIND basics. You could also search this forum for BIND related topics to find where I've given step by step directions and BIND orientation overviews. A little googling doesn't hurt either. Read these things, attempt to setup the server yourself, then ask specific questions.
