Desperate in need for some advice regarding DNS
Hi I am the IT manager of a small firm and need some advice regarding our network infrastructure. Basically we are running Windows 2000 server without DNS running. Our users have the following problems, slow logins, losing connection to their network drive and print server losing connections. The whole network slows down at 7pm. I thought that its an issue with not having a internal DNS so I try setting this up but since setting up the DNS it will not allow me to view our company website with the same domain name. Please help I am pulling my hair out to resolve this problem. Or tell me where I can get advice.

Have you setup the domain to point to a private IP address on the network (as opposed to the public IP returned by www.whatismyip.com)?

Send me a private message if you would like me to setup your DNS for you for a price of your choosing. This is the preferred method if your DNS needs to be fixed/setup fast and you don't have the time to bounce messages back and forth on a forum. Yep I have only used a private network for my domain instead of an public address.

Ok so this is what I have to go on:
"since setting up the DNS it will not allow me to view our company website with the same domain name" I'm going to need more information. First of all, does ALL computers on the network have this problem? |

good good. Now I'm going to pretend that your dns server's network IP is 10.0.0.1. I'm also going to pretend your company site domain is www.company.site. Enter this at the commandline and copy it and paste it in your next reply:
C:\>nslookup - 10.0.0.1 > www.company.site Please include the real IP and domain. Ambiguity tends to be confusing sometimes. Last edited by SilentRage : May 7th, 2004 at 01:25 PM. |
