is the web server a names-based vhost? If so, make sure it answers requests for host "www".

because:

If your desktops have search zones in their DNS resolver libs (your mac or pc has a "search domain" set to your own domain.) Then Bob in accounting types "www" in browser, it DNS looks up www.yourdomain.com (thanks to search domain setting) gets an IP. Browser connect to IP and request host "www" -- what Bob typed. Vhost server is confused...

Also same problem if you have a DNS record for "domain.com". Browser gets to web box, and asks for "domain.com" and it's confused.

Your prob is probably in the web server config...

I have experienced similar issues after an IE upgrade on computers.
I don't remember what was causing it though.

Use a packet sniffer (Ethereal ) to see what happens on the desktop side.
