DNS BIND from command line?
Hi- Running RH7.3 but soon RH9
I have been searching all over but can't seem to find a way to create a new domain to my dns server from the command line w/ fairly simple command. Only the GUI, which is fine if I'm on the box like now, but I want to do it remotely or rather on the fly via web browser. I understand about editing /etc/named.conf and creating a zone file in /var/named -- correct? And this would, assuming it's configured correctly, would run my dns server. I think you understand me. I was just wondering if there was a way to run a command like # bind new $domain and it would automatically configure named.conf and add a new zone file with all of the settings (A, NS, MX, CNAME records). Is there such a way or maybe an existing script? I guess I would have to write my own ?? All of the zone files would be identical, aside from the actual domain name ![]() Basically I want to automate the dns creation and don't want to manually edit the files. I want to simply execute a command/script and assigning a new domain and all will be taken care of. -- Any suggestions? Man I am tired.. running on 5 hours of sleep the past couple days so I apologize if I ramble or don't make sense. My brain is fried. Thanks, Joe Velez |

Yes you can, you will need to install:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/izidns/ there are many software like that, but I like izidns. ______________________________________________ Free Dynamic DNS and Static DNS Services http://linuxrc.org |
