    DNS change for a subdomain

    Hi,

Guy, i 'm new to this and this is a new task for me from my employer. Is my first time to do this, this meaning seting up a domain. I'm a PHP programmer but forced to do other tasks.

Please help me to understand and solve this asap and i will promise to learn more in the future because is quite important.

So the problem is (i cannot give the real names please understand):

The domain aaa.com is registred by a different company.

I need to link aaa.com to subdomain.bbb.com. the subdomain.bbb.com is my domain.

We cannot transfer, we need to see the website aaa.com but the file source to be taken from subdomain.bbb.com

    How can this be possibe?

    Thank you .

So... you want to hijack aaa.com and have it point to your site instead?

How much control over the aaa.com name servers do you have? Registrars will sometimes give you the option to redirect your domain somewhere else.

    Thank you.

The only solution the registrant of aaa.com want is to provide him an IP.

So how i can add an IP to a subdomain.bbb.com?

    Thank you.

They probably need the current IP of your webserver.

If you don't have a current webserver for your subdomain, you would want to get that and whatever IP address is tied to the server, you set that as the subdomain's A record.

Ok the webserver has an IP but when i gave them(to the aaa.com owner) to use it, it shows the ccc.com website which of course is mine but i need to point to subdomain.bbb.com! So they need a different valid IP right not the webserver right?

Thank you CaptPikel for your time.

    Regards,

Just the IP of the server is all they need for DNS. After that any forwarding or masking you do is performed on your server. It's the same as how hosting companies have many different websites on a single server. That's probably performed in Apache or via PHP, whatever you are using. I don't know the specifics of that. For DNS, if they are making an A record they just need the main IP of the server.

    Thank you once again.

    Clear with the IP.

But how to make my webserver to show the subdomain.bbb.com when visitor type aaa.com ? (aaa.com domain is not mine the owner added my webserver IP) ?
Right now it takes to ccc.com which like i said it has my webserver IP ?

    Hope is clear.
