DNS,Email & Webhosting
I'm new at this so please don't mind my question. I never did this before but is it possible to have a web site hosted by one company and have email hosted by another? Basically I have had a web site hosted by a company for several years. Now I want to get email service from my dsl provider who gives 6 URL email address. The problem here is that they want me to change my DNS entries with my registrar to their dns servers. If I do this won't I screw up my website? I'm not sure if this is the correct place for this question but it has to do with DNS so I figured I would give it a shot. Thanks for any help that can be provided.

Not sure if you have this option, but you might be able to just redirect the MX records and not the whole domain. You will probably have to check with your registrar and the DSL company to see if this is possible.

If your DSL company is giving you email addresses based off of your domain then the best thing to do is to change the MX records for that domain to point to the DSL company's mail servers.

DNS vs Email Host vs Web Host
As you may know by now... each of these 3 services are unique and do not need to reside with the same provider.
But, the main item is to have complete control over the DNS server that is assigned your DOMAIN name. Once you have this, you can easily modify the MX (mail) record, or WWW (Web site) record to point to any IP address you want. So, you need to find a Web hosting company that manages their own DNS server, and allow you to modify your DNS record segments. Try contacting URL (URL). They have an excellent service and cater to the home-professional and Web developer. Good luck! //W ![]() |
