As for post #1
There is another solution, but it does not involve using your public IP to access your site. You must either set the domain to the private IP in your hosts file, OR set bind to return a local IP for your domain if queried from the internal network using views. As for post #2 If all you want to do is rename the root.hint file then go right ahead. Then update the filename in the named.conf. No sweat. If I misunderstood what you're wanting to do, then reexplain.

And now post #3
You got it backwards. You want to forward the following: UDP 202.9.60.185:53 To 10.0.0.1:53 Or UDP 0.0.0.0:53 To 10.0.0.1:53 The second solution forwards all IP's that the router is configured for to that internal address. I didn't realize your router supports multiple public addresses or I would've stated it like this in the first place. |

Ahh
yeah its a 4 port alcatel speed touch, quite handy...
when i do forwarding to outside address as the router calls it of 0.0.0.0 and inside address of 10.0.0.1 both with port 53 i cannot browse webpages and irc stops functioning so i just tried a specific ip of 202.9.60.185 port 50, rather than 0.0.0.0 so ill see how that goes.. NOPE, browsing is stuffed when i enable udp, works fine for tcp you know why nothing browsers when this is enabled (port forwarding, udp port 53) hoipefully after this bug fix im nearly finished, have to wait 48 hours for a name server to resolve :| |

Dunno what to tell ya man. I'd have to dig my hands into the router myself to see what's wrong and offer a solution.
But since you do have a spiffy router, there is a chance you can make your public IP work from the internal network. After all, I have a router, and I can connect to my public IP just fine from the internal network. It's not as spiffy as yours though. ah... If your router is as spiffy as I think it is, you should have a routing table as well as the forwarding table that you should look at. |

Not to be mean but:
Rage if you are comparin my post in this thread you should note the dates. I found and repled to this thread before the thread you are referring to ;-) Unfortuanatly if i switch to BIND from my MS DNS i will have to reconfigure quite a bit of other network settings such as active directory (Yuck). That dam MS tech net isn't much help either =( So pretty much if anyone is reading this please don't install MS DNS.... I might just need to get a linux box with TinyDNS on it to patch up my network and modify my original box unless i can find a way to fix this MS hell im in.

DHCP?
You might be having this problem if you are using DHCP or NAT on several of your clients drjonesuk.
Double check you don't have multiple services on your network listening on 0.0.0.0 That would be a starting place. |
