DNS grade of F; what is wrong?
My domains take too long to show. It is causing me problems.
I tracert to netpad.us (and other domains on my server) and the times are good. When I use dnsstuff.com I get: Searching for A record for netpad.us at k.root-servers.net: Got referral to b.gtld.biz. [took 163 ms] Searching for A record for netpad.us at b.gtld.biz.: Got referral to NS1.SERVEREXPRESS.NET. [took 98 ms] [Had to look up A record for NS1.SERVEREXPRESS.NET.; assume 200ms] Searching for A record for netpad.us at NS1.SERVEREXPRESS.NET.: Reports an answer. Record is: Domain Type Class TTL Answer netpad.us. A IN 86400 69.57.152.52 netpad.us. NS IN 3600 ns2.serverexpress.net. netpad.us. NS IN 3600 ns1.serverexpress.net. ns1.serverexpress.net. A IN 86400 69.57.152.52 ns2.serverexpress.net. A IN 86400 69.57.153.136 Looking up at NS1.SERVEREXPRESS.NET.... [Had to look up A record for ns1.serverexpress.net; assume +200ms]...Reports 1 A record(s). 244ms. Looking up at NS2.SERVEREXPRESS.NET.... [Had to look up A record for ns2.serverexpress.net; assume +200ms]...Reports 1 A record(s). 244ms. Average of all 2 nameservers: 244ms (plus 461ms overhead). Score: F This seems to indicate a problem but I can not figure out the problem, much less the solution. I could sure use some help/interpretation. Gary (great site) |

Don't worry, everything is working as usual.
Every time you will check a domain at dnsstuff.com and the dns server for that domain have a different TLD you will get a "F" Example: domain: mysite.com dns server: dnsserver.net =F domain: mysite.com dns server: dnsserver.com =A or B or C, C+... Try to check some domain with dnsstuff.com and you will see for your self. From www.DNSreport.com : "WARNING. The parent servers (I checked with b.gtld.biz.) are not providing glue for all your nameservers. This means that they are supplying the NS records (host.example.com), but not supplying the A records (192.0.2.53), which can cause slightly slower connections, and may cause incompatibilities with some non-RFC-compliant programs. This is perfectly acceptable behavior per the RFCs. This will usually occur if your DNS servers are not in the same TLD as your domain (for example, a DNS server of "ns1.example.org" for the domain "example.com"). In this case, you can speed up the connections slightly by having NS records that are in the same TLD as your domain." |

Thanks a heap. That is a relief. Now I can tell my friend I don't think the problem with his site (not netpad.us) is with my server.
