Complete Newbie to Dedicated Servers, Dns,SSH you name it I hav'nt done it......up until my feeble efforts now that is
...Anyways I was wondering if there was a laymans tut to setting it up cause my brain hurts with all the reading iv'e done....Some details I hear you ask....here we go ![]() I have a domain name... itsmyown.biz ..regged at vox domains I have a dedicated server hosted at FDCServers The server has 3 ip addresses 66.**.**.85 this is the main address 66.**.**.48 66.**.**.49 When I do a whois on 66.**.**.85 I get ns3 & 4 fdcservers.net So I pointed my domain name to them In WHM edit setup we have the following Main Shared Virtual Host IP 66.**.**.85 Hostname: andy.itsmyown.biz Primary nameserver ns1.itsmyown.biz ..I assigned an ip address and it took 66.**.**.48 and I added an a entry which seemed to work ok too Secondary nameserver ns2.itsmyown.biz ..I assigned an ip and it takes the main ip 66.**.**.85 and not the extra ip 66.**.**.49 So if I hav'nt gone wrong already it looks to me like its starting to go wrong now. Maybe I will stop now to see if I can get a few pointers in the right direction. Thanks for a few answers guys and laymans terms please regards Willy |

If you give us your IP addresses and your domain name, we can check your DNS.

Hi freemans-web
Thanks for the reply...I did mention my domain name its: itsmyown.biz And what I really am asking is ....what I have done so far do'es it look right ? I should also have mentioned that at my domain name hoster I registered ns1.itsmyown.biz to 66.**.**.48 and ns2.itsmyown.biz to 66.**.**.49 So should my domain name be pointing to ns1 & ns2.itsmyown.biz or to ns3 & ns4.fdcservers.net as it is at the moment ? Are you confused ? cause I am Thanksregards Willy ![]() |

Hi there,
I see what you mean, and no it's not critical that the ns records be the same as the domain name your hosting. Althought it looks pretty it's not required. The only that is required is the external domain is resolvable of course, and it's reverse or ptr record functions. Cheers |
