DNS newbie having problems

Hi everyone!

I have already spent a week reading about DNS, browsing forums but did not find a solution to my problem. I'd be really glad if someone could help me out here, I bet there are a lot of professionals in this forum.

So here's my problem:

I am trying to configure my own DNS servers ns1 and ns2 on a dedicated server with 5 IP's.

My IP's are

*.*.*.82
*.*.*.83
*.*.*.84
*.*.*.85
*.*.*.86

I am planning to host 20-30 domains on that server which are registered at Directnic.com.

For my primary domain, (let's call it mydomain1.com) I am using Directnic's DirectDNS service which is pointing to IP 82.

Since I need a Canonical name for my Nameservers I decided to have ns1.mydomain1.com and ns2.mydomain1.com, so I registered these two at my Registrar and configured them to point to IP 85 and 86.

At my dedicated server I configured through CPanel...

- ns1.mydomain1.com and ns2.mydomain1.com as Primary and Secondary Nameservers

- hostname.mydomain1.com as hostname.

- IPs 85 and 86 as resolvers

- DNS Zones for my other x domains...

MYDOMAINx.com 14400 in NS ns1.mydomain1.com
MYDOMAINx.com 14400 in NS ns2.mydomain1.com
MYDOMAINx.com 14400 in A *.*.*.82
www 14400 in Cname MYDOMAINx.com

(I have left out localhost mail and ftp in this posting)

- DNS Zones for my Nameservers ns1 and ns2

ns1.Mydomain1.com 14400 in NS ns0.directnic.com
ns1.Mydomain1.com 14400 in NS ns1.directnic.com
localhost.ns1.Mydomain1.com 14400 in A 127.0.0.1

(I have left out www, mail and ftp in this posting)

->> Problem: None of my domains except the one with DirectDNS (Mydomain1.com) are resolving.

Checkdns.net says for MYDOMAINx.com:

Found NS record: ns1.mydomain1.com[*.*.*.82], was resolved to IP address by ns0.directnic.com

DNS server ns1.mydomain1.com[*.*.*.82] is alive, but not authoritative for domain 'MYDOMAINx.com' and didn't return SOA

(same for ns2.mydomain1.com)

So the first part of the problem is obviously the nameservers resolving to the wrong IP (both 82 instead of 85/86).

They're correctly set as 85 and 86 at Directnic so there must be something wrong with the nameserver configuration at my dedicated server.

That's the point where I am currently stuck... I definately need assistance in this matter.

Thanks a lot for your help, much appreciated!

Look, if you realy want us to help you, you should public the
real data, like domain-name and IP, and your dns-server file.
It's impossible for us to check am find the problem if we don't
have what to check. I took my time to find the problem and
also made a picture, but belive me, without real info it's
impossible.
