DNS not resolving an outside domain
Hi,
I have receintly configured a DNS server on one of my PDC and pinted the machine to itself for DNS registration. I can browse the net but I cannot see our site URL which is hosted by an outside host. The PDC DNS name is also grapevinejobs.com so when I type the name I simply get redirected to the local IP of the PDC. Any idea what I need to do? Do I have to add sth in LMHOSTS file? Many thanks. |

Well either have the DNS Server return the external IP for that domain, or add the domain to your hosts file to override it. That's your only options.

Hi, Thanks for your reply.
Any idea how I get the DNS Server return the external IP for that domain? I am pretty new to DNS so I guess I still have a lot to learn Cheers |

Well you can just try changing the private IP's to the external IP using Microsoft DNS Manager. I don't know if that'll actually work though. I'm not super familiar with MS DNS and have heard plenty of horror stories about AD magically changing your zone with stuff you don't want.
