DNS Problem

I have just taken over the supoprt contract for a company. My first problem is quite a large one!

Their Windows 2000 domain name is in the format domain.com, but their internet address is also domain.com. The web site is not hosted on site.

Their ISP is complaining because the domains DNS server is sending requests to the IPS's DNS server trying to update domain.com.

How can I stop this happening without renaming the domain?
