DNS Problems
Hello. I have just purchased a domain name, prongbuck.com, and am trying to get the dns set up for it.
Ive got my dns server registered with internic.ca and everything seems to be working fine. I get no errors starting named or anything, however www.prongbuck.com is not resolving. prongbuck.com works, ns1.prongbuck.com works (although this one really shouldnt popup with the apache testpage as prongbuck.com does should it?),www.prongbuck.com does not. Im at a loss here, Ive used SilentRages DNSCrawler to test things out and I cant seem to figure out whats going wrong. Im using BIND v9.2.1 my domain name is prongbuck.com and Ive set up www.prongbuck.com and ns1.prongbuck.com all to resolve to the same address 24.76.239.120 (ps. if putting my ip address in here was a stupid thing to do, please delete it). I've only got one crappy server right now, this is more of a learning experience/experiment, so Im not worried about it not being the best setup. Any help is appreciated, any other info thats required please let me know. |

Nothing wrong with posting your IP address. Only newbs think posting their IP will get them hacked or something. (considering this is probably a touchy subject, anybody who wishes to argue with me on this should take it to PM)
So anyway... I found the problem immediately. Here's the steps to take in DNS Crawler: #1 load up DNS Crawler and plug your domain into the "name" field and press "Submit Query". As you can see below, it probably worked. Resolution test #2 But what other servers do ya got? Click on the aqua link "A.GTLD-SERVERS.NET" to see what that server had to say. DNS Server List #3 Now we need to test the response for the rest of the servers too. Click on the purple link beside the name of each zoneedit server. ns18.zoneedit.com reports... ns8.zoneedit.com reports... Test over, we found a failure. Apparently the zoneedit servers return the IP 0.0.0.0 instead of the valid IP. This means that approximately 2 out of 3 requests fails when the zoneedit servers are queried instead of your own.

Ah ok. I had forgotten to remove the zoneedit dns servers from the dns list at my registrar.
Thanks SilentRage. |
