DNS reolving

undefined undefined

Hi ..

This is my first message to this group. Hope all is doing well.

I have a running DNS slave server that was upgraded recently to BIND 9.2.3. Everything seems to go well except that im susbecting something im not sure about.

I tried doing dig to domains, such as yahoo.com and thats what i got

------------------------------------------------------------

# dig NS yahoo.com

; <<>> DiG 9.2.3 <<>> NS yahoo.com
;; global options: printcmd
;; Got answer:
;; ->>HEADER<<- opcode: QUERY, status: NOERROR, id: 8439
;; flags: qr rd ra; QUERY: 1, ANSWER: 5, AUTHORITY: 0, ADDITIONAL: 0

;; QUESTION SECTION:
;yahoo.com. IN NS

;; ANSWER SECTION:
yahoo.com. 165017 IN NS ns5.yahoo.com.
yahoo.com. 165017 IN NS ns1.yahoo.com.
yahoo.com. 165017 IN NS ns2.yahoo.com.
yahoo.com. 165017 IN NS ns3.yahoo.com.
yahoo.com. 165017 IN NS ns4.yahoo.com.

;; Query time: 28 msec

------------------------------------------------------------

there is no any aditional sections showing IPs for these name servers, as i think it should have it. So i can be sure that my DNS is resolving domains.

Also when trying dig using another server i got:

------------------------------------------------------------

# dig NS yahoo.com @NS.unc.edu

; <<>> DiG 9.2.3 <<>> NS yahoo.com @NS.unc.edu
;; global options: printcmd
;; Got answer:
;; ->>HEADER<<- opcode: QUERY, status: NOERROR, id: 36928
;; flags: qr rd; QUERY: 1, ANSWER: 5, AUTHORITY: 0, ADDITIONAL: 5

;; QUESTION SECTION:
;yahoo.com. IN NS

;; ANSWER SECTION:
yahoo.com. 171610 IN NS ns4.yahoo.com.
yahoo.com. 171610 IN NS ns5.yahoo.com.
yahoo.com. 171610 IN NS ns1.yahoo.com.
yahoo.com. 171610 IN NS ns2.yahoo.com.
yahoo.com. 171610 IN NS ns3.yahoo.com.

;; ADDITIONAL SECTION:
ns4.yahoo.com. 171600 IN A 63.250.206.138
ns5.yahoo.com. 171600 IN A 216.109.116.17
ns1.yahoo.com. 171600 IN A 66.218.71.63
ns2.yahoo.com. 171600 IN A 66.163.169.170
ns3.yahoo.com. 171600 IN A 217.12.4.104

;; Query time: 162 msec

------------------------------------------------------------

What do you think? is there a problem with my dns ?

Well, I try it at my server and there is an aditional sections
showing the IP.
I really don't know why at you server don't show the IP,
but I don't think that there is a problem with your dns server.
