You don't need a fax machine to get faxes. Get a fax-to-email fax number from CallWave. Try it free.

DNS server limited to specific domains or subdomains?
What would be the best way to setup a DNS server to restrict a group of systems to looking up only one domain or subdomain (Bind on FreeBSD)?
I have a group of servers I would like to be able to lookup names in bbb.com or aaa.bbb.com but no other domains outside of bbb.com. Do I use a zone forwarder/forward only to the zone master with no recursion and no root hints? Do I setup my root hints with a loopback address? Any ideas on this are appreciated in advance, I'm not even sure what to search for in the forums. Thanks, M |

I would think you want to either restrict queries from a subnet, or setup a 'view' that you respond to.
There is no need for an internal DNS to resolve external addresses, so you can respond to requests for foo.bbb.com and not for www.google.com But most folks setup the local DNS to at least cache entries for external hosts, to cut down on traffic over the link from bbb.com to the greater internet |
