Dns Soa
My company has recently registered its domain name. Currently the DNS servers are offsite with the registrar. I wish to have the local DNS servers be used rather than those offsite.
Do I just have the registrar add an A record for my DNS server? Thanks, ThePopp |

No - you need to have the registrar set your name servers as the authorative servers for your domain, then configure your name servers to answer queries for that domain.

Okay, 2 questions. I just send them an email telling them to make my DNS servers authoritative? 2nd, creating an SOA record on my DNS servers makes them Authoritative, doesn't it?
Thanks |

Most registrar's provide a web-based control panel for you to log in and make this change. Or if they don't, you can email them and ask them to do it. Quote:
It instructs your DNS server to answer authorative queries for that domain. But it doesn't actually make the server authorative - your registrar has to do that. Last edited by alexgreg : September 21st, 2003 at 04:41 PM. |
