DNS troubles
Okay. First I'll give you a little clue of the set up I have. I am running windows server 2003. I have Linksys 4-port switch router. I have AD setup. I have DNS configured. A few problems though. The server works with my IP (the three computers on my network share 1 ip). However, the domain name I set up does not. It works locally for me, but does not work for anyone else. I have dynamic updates turned off. The www record for the DNS keeps changing back to my LAN IP when I want it to be my WAN. I change them, and they keep going back. The name server (perfect-drug.net) keeps going back to my LAN IP as well. I'm sorry if this isn't enough information for you to help me. If you need more information, please let me know. I will give you all the info I can. ANy help will be appreciated. THanks in advance for any help you offer me.

also, he got it to work once, but the IPs in his DNS keep changing to the local IPs, and the domain (perfect-drug.net) obviously doesn't work..

Make sure DNS ports are open and directed to your 2003 server. I know this is probley done but just in case. For the changing IP problem first disable dynamic updates via the Properties for your Zone. Also if your computer is named www.yourdomain.com and www is the record that is beeing updated you may want to rename your server allthough disabling dynamic updates should take care of it. Shouldnt use .com etc for AD always use .local etc something that will not conflict.

thank you for replying, the dynamic updates were disabled, and the AD was set up to use the DNS server for a registered domain, the problem was worked around though:
He set up a third party DNS server, and now it works: www.perfect-drug.net thanks for repplying, and if you have any other ideas on what it could be, I'd be interested... |
