domain, name server, one and the same?
I just got a dedicated server and I'm trying to get the damn thing working. I've owned the domain for years.
I want ns.mydomain.com and ns1.mydomain.com I'm being told that I have to register the name server. Does this mean I have to do a seprate registration for the ns? Or is the ns and domain one and the same? Where do I register a ns? GoDaddy? (I don't see that option). As always thanks for the help. |

They are different.
In the old days, yes you had a separate (free) registration form you emailed to Network Solutions to tell them about your new name server. My domains are hosted at Network Solutions. I just finished adding new name servers. (we moved network-wise). At netsol it automatically created ns server registartion records for my new dns servers when I added the servers to the frist domain. BUT, many of my customers have domains at godaddy, tucows, etc. They could NOT list my servers on their zones (domains) until after I had done the first one at NetSol. I know that doesn't definitely answer your Q. How that helps at least a little... -c |
