Do you crytographically signed dynamic updates, or do you use unsecured HTTP requests?

Well...

Well, I realy don't know if we "crytographically signed dynamic update" please receive my apology for that.
We are using the gnudip2 server and the dynamic updates are not made by the HTTP protocol, they are made by the gnudip server at port 3495.
Please feel free to send me an e-mail at dns@linuxrc.org

dynamic updates are done via the DNS protocol. All changes take effect immediately rather than relying on additional server-side scripts. Cryptographically signing them means to use TSIG private keys which means even if somebody where to sniff the traffic going between the client and server, they can't use the info to change the IP to anything they want. You must have the private key. You can think of it like a password that isn't actually submitted to the server. It's a fairly complicated process, though extremely efficient and standardized.

So tell us why somebody should use your dynamic IP service instead of something like http://freedns.afraid.org?

The password is MD5-encoded

The updates are made using the MD5 digest message digest algorithm, therefor the password is MD5-encoded.

More info about the Update Protocol is provided here:
