Easier DNS than BIND for OpenBSD
I am looking to use someting that is a little easier to use for DNS other than Bind, but the trick is I need it to be secure and have either a port or an easy way to install on OpenBSD, aka not having to rewrite 50% of the file.
The two front runners seem to be tiny DNS and djbdns. Any ideas or suggestions?

My OpenBSD box at home runs dnscache. Note that OpenBSD does not have tinydns/dnscache in the ports collection any more. They've removed them from ports, due to DJB's license. However, it's pretty trivial to download them from DJB's site and install them.
BTW, djbdns consists of a bunch of components of which tinydns and dnscache are two parts. I wasn't sure what you meant when you said that the "two front runners are tiny DNS and djbdns". Last edited by Scorpions4ever : June 27th, 2003 at 06:03 PM. |

tinydns really is a piece of cake to install - I was up and running in about 20 minutes. No archaic zone files to deal with either!
Configuration is also really simple - make and the ./add-xxx commands make it a snap to publish new DNS records. And it's backed up by the djbdns security guarantee.

I knew Theo threw the ports out, someone I think still maintains a port. Anyway, I did mean TinyDNS with djbdns.
This looks to be the route to go. Especially since I am installing Qmail as our default email system. |
