hosts file question
How can I make my web browser (and outlook express) use the IP in the hosts file (c:\winnt\system32\drivers\etc\hosts on my win2K system) before querying my dns server?
I want to override the entry in the DNS server with a setting I give it. Pinging a domain in the hosts file works, but the browser/email client seems to The reason I want to do this is so that when I preview a spam email, I don't want it to retrieve images from the web to notify the sender that I have viewed their junk mail. I am getting spam containing image tags that retrieve blank images from exceip.com who keeps a log of current valid emails to send more spam to! |

I think an eaiser solution is to disable prview pane and if you want to get picky only receive plain text email, this is possible via outlook or your exchange server.
This I have been doing on elm and now pine for 7years. ![]() |
