how long does MX record take to update

i changed my mx records locally because i am running my own dns server in win2k and i keep getting a unknown host error when i try to send mail to it. url is www.interactive-data.net

As you can see the MX record is located under the mail host. This is incorrect. According to your DNS configuration you must send mail to user@mail.interactive-data.net. Move the MX record to the root domain. While you're at it, set an 'A' record for the root domain also.

i am not sure if this was right. when you say root domain, what do you mean by that.

this is driving me crazy

i keep making changes to my mx record. is this only making it worse? do i have to wait any certain amount of time before it works. i still get the cannot find host error...

i have made the changes

thankyou i have mad ethe changes. however i still get the cannot find host error when sending an email to it? any sugguestions or do i need to wait some to to update?
