want to know where a domain is hosted.
what country, etc.

if you are on linux, type "whois www.domain.com" or "whois 1.2.3.4".
on windows i think there is no preinstalled tool for whois. you can use: http://www.ripe.net/

or here's a webbased solution coded with joy by me.
Whois Direct examples: Either enter the IP directly: whois 68.51.39.58 Or enter a name server then click on the IP: whois ns1.dollardns.net DNS Crawler example: Enter the IP and click 'Reverse IP' dig -x 68.51.39.58 I also wrote a windows commandline whois utility (open source): http://www.dollardns.net/whois/whois.zip I gotta brag about that other windows whois utility being 68 KB in size and mine is only 8KB.
