I can't believe, only 2.5$ per domain

I can't believe, dot5hosting.com register domain names
for only 2.5$ a year. I was happy with godaddy, but now
it's unbeliever!

Have you registered a domain with them? If so could you tell me what the domain is so that I can check something? I find it interesting that multiple years are more expensive:

1 year = $2.5/year
2 years = $5/year
3 years = $6.67/year

www.myvaluehost.com offers $4 domain registrations but they will only register 10 domains at that rate, and any domain name renewals or multi-year registrations are at $8.95/year. MyValueHost uses tucows OpenSRS which is a decent service for modifying domain information. I've registered 10 domains with them.

No, I didn't register a domain with them.

No, I didn't register a domain with them. I was just surprised
with the price. I was register domain in the past with
godaddy.com but now I'm register domains with a local
register because they accept more payment ways.
Yes I see, that if you register for two years is 10$, but
still for one year is 2.5.

yeah, I'm just curious what the "catch" is. MyValueHost has a catch as I described above, but it's no big deal. It seems that it's cheaper all the way around to go with dot5hosting instead of MyValueHost, but now I'm curious what arrangements they make for managing your domain. If you have to email them to make changes for example, that would suck. If they require that you use their dns servers that would suck. All kinds of things could suck. I wish I could get a review on it.

I've discussed their service with their live online chat option. Here's the discussion below. In brief, I find nothing wrong with them so far. At some point later in time I may register domains with them.

Please wait for a site operator to respond.
You are now chatting with 'Andrew'
Andrew: Thank you for contacting Dot5Hosting Live Chat. How may I assist you today?
SilentRage: sup
SilentRage: I'm looking at your registration service
Andrew: Hello, How can I help you?
SilentRage: do you support transfers? Like if I transferred a domain from another registrar to you? If so, at what price?
Andrew: If you signup 1 or 2 years plan then we will transfer the domain for free
SilentRage: so like if I transferred my domain to you for 1 year, I pay $2.50 right? And this additional year is added to my existing expiration date?
Andrew: No if you signup 1 or 2 years hosting plan then we will transfer the domain for free
SilentRage: oooooooooh. Got confused on the plans there. So what about no hosting plan cause I do my own hosting? Is there a fee for that? Or is it just not supported?
Andrew: Please check the hosting plans at http://dot5hosting.com
SilentRage: my dedicated server is what I'm sticking with. So are ya gonna advertise to me or answer my questions?
SilentRage: hm, maybe you got confused on the question. Want me to restate it?
Andrew: Let me know if you want to signup for new hosting plans or just transfer the domain
SilentRage: I don't want any webhosting at all. What I'm asking is, can I transfer a domain name from another registrar to you?
Andrew: Ok let me check
SilentRage: How do I do this? I could not find such an option on the website. Also, how much do I pay for transferring domains to you?
Andrew: You have to pay $2.50 for transferring the site
Andrew: You can use the transfer option while signup
SilentRage: Ok, so let me see if I got this understood correctly. I can transfer my domain to you on your site for $2.50 for one year. And this 1 year is added to my existing expiration date yes?
Andrew: No, you will start the new year with us for your domain, as the existing date is valid only with your current registrar.
SilentRage: Ok. Finally moving on to the next question. What registrar do you register domains with? Or are you yourselves a registrar?
Andrew: We registers the domains to Enom
SilentRage: Ok. Do you use an interface provided by Enom or do you guys have your own interface? (I'm familiar with Enom)
SilentRage: for managing domain information
SilentRage: Or do I have to email you guys to change the name servers and contact information?
Andrew: Please wait
Andrew: We have Enom interface for managing the domain
SilentRage: ah, I consider that a good thing. Ok, so how do I start this transferral process from the website when I choose to go through with it? I don't see any way on how to create an account, nor, do I see any such options when I query my domain which exists.
Andrew: While signup you have to use the option "transfer" to transfer the domain
SilentRage: Yes, so where is this signup option is what I'm asking.
SilentRage: The word 'signup' does not exist on your front page.
Andrew: Please go to https://secure.dot5hosting.com/cgi-bin/hosting/order.cgi
SilentRage: Is this page lacking an update? It says that new domain registrations cost $7.95.
Andrew: it's not updated
SilentRage: Also, I've entered my domain and chose "transfer" and pressed "next". On the next page it gives me options on what plan I want to purchase with my domain. All of these assume I want web hosting which is not the case.
Andrew: Yes, please don't fill the package information
SilentRage: It's a dropdown box which defaults to an $8 plan and there's no entries for no web hosting plan. If I fill out this information and click the "purchase" button, I'll be paying for something I don't want.
SilentRage: try it for yourself to see what I mean.
Andrew: Yes, I know
Andrew: Will it be fine if I update you later, I will investigate the issue and update you
SilentRage: Yes, that is fine. I won't need to transfer the domain until later anyway. I just wanted to give a full checkup on your service before I recommend you guys to others.
Andrew: ok
SilentRage: so far I find nothing wrong with new domain registrations. Just the transfer process needs to be hooked in to your new system.
Andrew: Yes
Andrew: Anything else I can help you with?
SilentRage: nope, thank you for your time.
Andrew: Thank you for chatting. Good-bye.

At a glance of the subject title, this thread is either a SPAM or should be posted elsewhere.

DNS:
DNS forum discussing issues, servers, and configurations

Dev Shed Lounge:
Dev Shed Lounge forum discussing anything that doesn't fit into the other forums. This is a place to relax, talk, and even have some friendly debate

Web Hosting:
Web hosting forum discussing tips on the best web hosts and information about hosting companies.

If you go into Web Hosting forum and Web Hosting Offers forum, this thread wouldn't be OFF TOPIC since there are tons of your type of subject title and your type of message.

Read this again -> DNS forum discussing issues, servers, and configurations

What's a SHAME is that, the moderator (SilentRage) didn't recognize this as OFF TOPIC type of message.

since it focuses on domain name registration, it fits in a "domain name system" forum. If you have gripes then you should message a forum moderator in private. Forum descriptions rarely describe the entirety of what content may fit in that given forum, and are rather used as a guideline up to interpretation by the forum moderators.

I'm sorry that you think that is a "SPAM", because it's not
I just think that if this is a dns forum, and people are talking
all the time about domain name too, I think that if I found
I very cheep register, it should help. The people that are
coming here, are coming for dns problems, so I think that
some of them want to buy, or to renew a domain, so what
not to give them a very chep register.
When I buy my first domain, I pay for him 40$ because I didn't
know that I can find cheaper, o.k. it was a long time ago.
I'm sure that very people that read the message will find
it very helpful, I'm sorry that you don't!

dot5hosting NIGHTMARE

To all you guys, who are planning to sign up hosting with dot5:

DON'T DO IT !!!!

I am going through an absolute nightmare with them. Paid for one year of hosting and regret every day since the first month (30 day money back guarantee) was over.

Before you consider doing any business with them, make sure to check out http://www.dot5sucks.com and http://forums.dot5sucks.com/

They are also scam artists: they advertise to register domain names for $ 2.50, but in 9 of 10 times their system responds with "Domain name unavailable". Checking with the Whois Registry, the domain names I wanted were in fact available! Don't trust me, try it for yourself!

Good luck with other companies out there ...

Thumbs down i had trouble with them

I registered a name on their site saturday night. i was on live chat with them tuesday and they were asking me what my issue was. the name was still available for purchasing elsewhere and i did not want to lose it so i bought it through another domain name company. i think if i was going to have them host it i would be writing a different story.....
