IIS Causes Problems

I installed IIS on my computer. All of a sudden, something strange: after about 5 minutes, I cannot access any webpage on the Internet nor can I access my emails.

If I re-start the computer, Internet and email access work fine, but then after 5 minutes, same problem.

I uninstalled IIS and the problem vanished, so it would appear that the problem is related to IIS.

Any helpful information would be much appreciated.

Don't use IIS. Ever.

I'm know professional, but I can tell you that I believe to problem occurs because IIS uses, or should I say "takes over", port 80 which, mostlikely, your website uses. I experienced the same probably when installing apache2, it couldn't be activated because port 80 was in use by none otherthan IIS.

This is the same for any network server - they all bind to a certain port. You will need to shut down IIS via the "Services" widget in "Control Panel -> Administrative Tools", and then uninstall it completely via Control Panel -> Add and Remove Programs.

I have no idea why IIS does this, it shouldn't do this. I wish I had physical access to your computer to figure it out, but oh well. All I DO know is that your access to webpages on the internet has nothing to do with your webserver binding port 80.

But yeah, do yourself a favor and use Apache.

This is correct - but I don't think this was the issue. He used the term "website" instead of "web server". Evidently the problem is that he can't start Apache, because IIS is still running and bound to port 80.

That was the original problem. I was simply saying that the help js411js provided was irrelevent to the actual problem. js411js perhaps misunderstood the question.
