internal DNS resolution - easy question for smart DNS person
I have an small network setup that uses external DNS servers for resolution (ISP provided DNS servers). I have a web application running on IIS that can be accessed externally using intranet.domain.com (DNS is setup on ISP's Name servers). I want to setup DNS internally to resolve intranet.domain.com to the IIS servers IP address. How can I do this? I know this should be easy, but I am uncertain as to the best way to do this. Please help.

I think you can use a hosts file to accomplish this, check microsoft support site.

Answer
This is pretty simple.
Goto your registrar, were you registered your domain and register your servers IP address as a name server. Then Setup DNS on your server. For Linux see here http://www.redhat.com/docs/manuals/...-bindconf.html, for 2000 or 2003 just install the DNS server from add remove programs, then use the DNS console to add a primary zone for your domain, and enter records for www, ftp etc. You should search the web for help configuring DNS on win2k servers should you not be able to sort things out. When you have done tis check to ensure things are working by setting you computer to use itsself E.G. 127.0.0.1 or your IP for DNS resolution. this is done via TCP/IP settings. E.G. in Windows specify the use this server for DNS resolution option. If everything is working login to your registrar and update your domain name to use your server E.G. the name you registered as the first step of this preoccess as its first listed Name server.
