Internal DNS Zone file
Thanks for your help; I am trying to set up an internal DNS zone file using 10.1.1.X.zone AND an external zone file. I am moving between providers with different IP addresses and still need to be able to resolve. Clear as mud huh.
Here is my Internal DNS Zone file $TTL 2D @ IN SOA localhost. root.localhost. 2004021700 ; serial 1D ; refresh 0H ; retry 0H ; expiry 2D ) ; minimum IN NS localhost. www IN A 10.1.1.20 webfuse.net IN A 10.1.1.21 mail IN A 10.1.1.50 data IN A 10.1.1.30 1 IN PTR fw1. 20 IN PTR URL. 20 IN PTR webfuse.net. 30 IN PTR db.webfuse.net 50 IN PTR mail.webfuse.net. www is my web server, mail is mail server and data is a MySQL server...webfuse.net is the domain I want to serve within my LAN. Here is my TLD zone file for webfuse.net.zone $TTL 2D webfuse.net. IN SOA ns2.webfuse.net. root.webfuse. ( 2004021500 0 ; serial 1D ; refresh 2H ; retry 1W ; expiry 2D ) ; minimum IN NS ns2.webfuse.net. IN MX 10 mail cisco800h1 IN A 162.39.246.169 webfuse.net IN A 10.1.1.21 fw1 IN A 162.39.246.170 www IN A 162.39.246.172 ns2 IN A 162.39.246.173 ns1 IN A 162.39.246.221 ns3 IN A 162.39.246.222 cisco800h2 IN A 162.39.246.209 This was my working zone file when I was with another provider; I have changed webfuse.net to 10.1.1.21 to try and use the TLD for my LAN for testing. In closing when testing settings how can I know if what I've done is working NOW...apparently I made changes that did work but the time it took to start resolving changed and I had made other changes that took over later and lost the correct settings...that that make ANY sense?? ![]() Thanks again for your help Chuck |

Well, you gave us a ton of information, but I'm not sure what the problem is. I didn't look too closely at the zone information since I don't know if there's any problems I should look for or what they are if there is.
This is the only real question I could find: "In closing when testing settings how can I know if what I've done is working NOW" By whether you can access webpages and if sending mail works. If nothing is broken, then everything is working.
